Participants for the KIPBS training are selected based on several criteria.

  • Access to Online Course Materials:
    • It is recommended that you have a broadband internet connection of at least 512 kbps
    • Windows XP or newer (Windows 7 is recommend) or Mac OS 10.5 or newer (Mac OS 10.6 is recommended)
    • The latest version of at least two of these browsers installed on your computer:
      • Internet Explorer (Windows) or Safari (Mac)
      • Firefox (Windows & Mac)
      • Chrome (Windows & Mac)
    • Latest version of the Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader (for PDFs)
      • Acquire the latest versions from the Adobe Downloads page
      • Check your system compatibility for Adobe Connect (online meeting & collaboration tool) using the System Test
  • Additional software required for the training:
    • Microsoft Office 2007 or newer. (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Java Add-in (Download latest version of Java at
  • Access to a video camera with audio capability
  • You will be applying what you learn while working with an individual throughout the training, therefore it will be difficult for you to complete the assignments if you change employment
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Completion of the application package

To apply for KIPBS training, click on the application form (PDF |  DOC). Print out a copy of the form for submission to the review committee along with the following documentation.

  • A. A copy of your resume or vita (please indicate what degree you have)
  • B. Two signed letters of reference (PDF |  DOC). One must be from a supervisor and one from a co-worker
  • C. Two consumer satisfaction documents (PDF |  DOC) from previous consumers of your professional work
  • *If you do not have consumer satisfaction documents, please submit this form along with an explanation telling us why you do not have this type of documentation.
  • D. A statement of your educational or professional philosophy (PDF |  DOC)
  • E. Individual support plan, PBS plan, person-centered plan, or other individualized planning  documents (PDF |  DOC) that demonstrates your work with an individual with DD. If you worked as part of a team in completing any of these documents, please describe your role
  • *If you do not have an individual support plan (PBS or PCP), please submit this form along with an explanation telling us why you do not have this type of documentation.
  • F. Certification of MANDT training (PDF |  DOC) (copy of certification attached)
  • *If you do not have a current Mandt certificate through the intermediate level at the time you apply, you will be required to take the training prior to the start of any case study activities. We will also accept other nationally recognized restraint training that your organization might utilize. Please contact KIPBS staff at to receive approval for restraint trainings other than Mandt.
  • G. Statement of availability of necessary technology resources (PDF |  DOC)

If you are accepted into the KIPBS Training Program, you and your agency will be required to complete consent forms in order to participate in the course.
